The End of an Era or The Death of a Dream?

Oh man.
As you know, I started writing my thoughts about food a week ago. And, as you do, I rang up my mum to tell her about it.
She's closed her cafe.
What?
Yep.
After four years of struggle my mum has decided that Creswick just isn't the place for a funky little eatery come music venue and is giving up the ghost.
It's a shame.
I know I'm biased and all, but the Groovin' Grub Cafe really did have the best coffee in Creswick, if not all of that part of the Hepburn Shire (excluding the better places in Daylesford I guess).
And the music was great too (most of the time.)
And the food was fantastic (of course).
Her specialties, in these colder months, were soups (like the one I described in my last post), baked potatoes and homemade pies.
My favorite was the Lamb and Leek.
I was going to get some of the recipes off her, including how she achieved that cafe level of rapid food preparation without sacrificing quality, to share with you. But she's too down at the moment for such conversation.
It's hard to run such a business by yourself, no matter how good a cook you are, but I honestly thought things were picking up and that the quality of the food was going to finally win the locals (who were a bit unsure about the colorful decor and the quirky proprietor) over.
But it was not to be.
So, I salute you mum, for giving it a go, and I salute the Groovin' Grub and all the other `failed' small businesses in the tough game of cafe/restaurant operation.
Keep groovin'.
Earl.
PS Daylesford, perhaps too far gone in it's decent into artificial atmosphere to even be considered an actual town anymore, does still have some quality to find. This is despite how many of their cafes serve mediocre coffee, presumably, with the idea that if people have traveled all that way, they're gonna be desperate for any coffee, even a weak yet overdrawn, burned and bitter one. Kinda like a mininture version of the same attitude they have in London.
PPS Not that that bothers me much though, since I'm a tea drinker.
